4th Graders at Harlan Elementary School in Florence will have an
opportunity Friday afternoon to learn basic filmmaking techniques from Don
Tingle of the Alabama Filmmakers Co-op, and basic stop-motion animation from
Randy Bruce, technology teacher at Florence High School.

Multi-talented actor, director, screenwriter, singer and songwriter
Billy Bob Thornton discusses his Southern background, his early influences and
the evolution of his eclectic career. From his early renown as “the fattest baby
in Clark County, Arkansas” to his Oscar-winning work on
Sling Blade and recent successes
ranging from the movie comedy Bad Santa
to the album Beautiful Door, Billy
Bob Thornton discusses every aspect of his unique artistry in music and the
movies.

Thornton (who played the leading role of Karl Childers) is reunited with fellow
actors Dwight Yoakam (Doyle Hargraves), Lucas Black (Frank Wheatley) and Natalie
Canerday (Linda Wheatley) for a look back at Thornton’s brilliant, quirky,
deeply personal and highly influential independent feature from 1996.
